Well what exactly is a hobby ?? Something that we enjoy doing during our spare time right ?. In that case, I would say my hobbies have changed over the time from being impulsive driven during the teens, to being somewhat more related to my likes and dislikes presently.
However I like being in the present and hence would stick to my present ones.I start with the one(reading) which has spawned the other ones, and is in a way the mother of other hobbies.
Reading:
Now I always loved to read and was somewhat ruminative as well. So I liked pondering over what I had read. Needless to say, reading is one of my hobbies. It encompasses a wide variety of written material, be it book-form or be it in the form of Newspaper editorials, or be it some interesting articles in the various websites.
I love reading both Fiction and Non-Fiction along with books related to popular science, autobiographies, thrillers etc.
Genetics:
I also read articles related to Genetics and Neuroscience. Genetics is the study of Genes the Biological barcode which decides whether you have blue eyes or brown, whether you have sharp face or not, and numerous other factors. We inherit our genes from our parents, and each gene is obtained from either of the parents.
Neuroscience:
I also love reading about Neuroscience, which is the study of our brains and how the Neural Pathways(circuits) formed inside decides what habits we habe, how analytical we are,how skillful we are in various activities- in short who we are. Our heart ,kidneys, eyes etc, can be replaced but we can still remain the same, but if we replace(if at all possible) our Brain we are NO longer the same person !! This is because it is in our Brains aka our Neural Pathways where our skills, memory, habits, attributes are stored and crafted day in and day out. In fact our Brains are plastic material which can give birth to new Neurons and form new connections, for which Brain is called a Neuro-Plastic organ.
.
Editorials :
I do read all sorts of news, however it is the Editorials which has become my favourite by dint f it being highly informative, providing deep insight and needless to say very well written. It is written by the best and brightest of the Journalists, Thinkers, Social Activists, Business leaders , Scientists and men having expertise in their respective domains which are as varied as one can think of.
I generally like the Editorials of Times of India, Economic Times and The HIndu.
Internet:
The Internet is an Ocean of data, both useful and otherwise. Being inherently curious , my usage of nternet goes much beyond logging on to various Social Networking Sites and emails. In fact the Wikipedia, Google Scholar, Amazon Book reviews, Cnet, PloS Genetics, SfN are some of the sites I keep visiting whenever I look for some deep and accurate information.
Graphology:
Well for the unitiated Graphology is basically the study of Handwriting-Analysis. It teaches one how to how to get a peek into someone's personal characteristic traits by just analysing their handwriting, albeit not one of it but a sample of his/her handwriting taken over a period of time. I have been pursuing this hobby por the past two years or so. Initially I was sceptical about it, but as days went by and I kept observing people's handwriting and compared it their Graphological inferences,I found it to be by and large true.
PagalGuy and Orkut:
Well the first is a forum for MBA aspirants in India and the second the most popular Social Networking Site, and both of them have one thing in common - they both eat up a chunk of my time.
Discovery and NatGeo :
Whenever I get time to watch T.V. (if at all) these are the two channels where my attention remains glued to. The programs in Discovery Channel and NatGeo are unique in the sense that it gives us a glimpse of the world which is, otherwise inaccessible to us- under the seas,in the Serengetti, inside Human Brain, in the Wild Amazon Basin etc.
Listening to Music :
This is probably a given. Hardly do we find anyone who does not unwind by listening to music. I am no exception, and my choices are eclectic. The songs that I prefer to listen depends on my mood at that time, but generally speaking I prefer those which are of the soft kind.
